Have You Had COPD Flare-ups?  Taking A Statin Pill May Help.

The Temple Lung Center is conducting a clinical research trial to find out if a daily dose of a statin, used to help people reduce cholesterol and prevent heart disease, can help reduce flare-ups in people with COPD.

TO BE A PART OF THIS TRIAL YOU MUST:

  • Have COPD
  • Have a recent history of flare-ups
  • Be 40 to 80 years of age
  • Be a current or ex-smoker
  • Not have active heart disease or high cholesterol
  • Not be taking statins

You may receive study medication or a placebo (an inactive substance) and medical tests, including breathing and blood tests, at no cost during the trial.

You will be compensated for the costs associated with your participation in the trial.  The trial consists of 2 to 4 visits per year to the research facility, Temple Lung Center, and a phone survey 6 to 7 times for up to 3 years.

Temple University is conducting a clinical research trial to see if a questionnaire used to track shortness of breath with daily activities among COPD patients is an effective way of measuring this condition.

TO BE A PART OF THIS TRAIL YOU MUST:

  • Have COPD
  • Be at least 40 years of age
  • Be a smoker or ex-smoker
  • Have shortness of breath
  • Not have asthma or other respiratory problems besides COPD

You will receive study medication and medical tests at no cost during the trial. The trial consists of 3 visits to the research facility, Temple Lung Center, over 2 months.

Oxygen Therapy May Help You Breathe Easier and Live Longer

Temple University is conducting a clinical research study for people with moderate COPD to find out whether oxygen therapy can help improve your quality of life and survival.

TO BE A PART OF THIS TRIAL YOU MUST:

•  Have moderate COPD, emphysema or chronic bronchitis

•  Be a current or ex-smoker

•  Be at least 40 years of age

•  Have shortness of breath when walking

•  Have Medicare insurance

You may receive oxygen therapy or no oxygen therapy. You will receive medical tests, including breathing, blood and exercise tests.

You may be compensated up to $450 per year for taking part in the study. The study consists of two to three initial visits and then one visit per year to the research facility, Temple Lung Center.

Your participation will last up to 4-1/2 years depending upon your enrollment date.

Temple University is conducting a clinical research trial to find out what causes COPD.

TO BE A PART OF THIS TRIAL YOU MUST:

•  Be a heavy smoker or ex-heavy smoker

•  Be 45 - 80 years of age

You will receive medical tests, including a breathing test, blood test and CT scan, at no cost during the study.

You may be compensated up to $50. The study consists of 1 visit to the research facility, Temple Lung Center, and then a phone call 2 times a year for up to 10 years.

Temple University is conducting a clinical research trial for people with COPD to find out whether a study medication may improve your symptoms.

TO BE A PART OF THIS TRIAL YOU MUST:

•  Have COPD

•  Be a smoker or ex-smoker

•  Be 40 - 65 years of age

You may receive study medication or a placebo (an inactive substance) and medical tests, including blood and breathing tests, bronchoscopy, ECG and CT scan, at no cost during the trial.

You may be compensated for their time and expenses. The trial consists of 13 visits to the research facility, Temple Lung Center, over two years.
